Comparison Of The Film Poster

From looking at these posters I can see that the layout and style of the poster can affect how the genre of the film is perceived by the audience. For example on the poster for Meet The Parents we are shown two of the main actors in they're pyjamas and on of them is attached to a machine, even though this may sound scary, the pyjamas that they are wearing make it look comical and funny. The tag lines used are also amusing because they make us think about what has happened to the characters in order for them to be in this situation. When we compare this to and action film for example Mission Impossible where the characters where the mise-en-scene is more serious, the outfits the characters are wearing are not amusing or funny, they look like they have been through a lot. The use of the harsh red font also adds to the action, as red is the colour of blood and makes it look dangerous. The romance film poster, Dear John has got two people who clearly love each other because of the way that they are sitting on each other, the setting also suggests romance because they are on a beach, the use of the light pastel colours also suggests calmness and love. The Martian is a sci-fi as this is clear to us because of the mise-en-scene where the character is in a space suit on the planet mars. In the horror film poster Ouija, there are no characters on the poster but there are dark colours on the background and an old board game piece, i feel that because there is less shown the film is more scary. The font also suggest horror, because it appears old and dated, There is also a shadow over the board game, this is suggesting someone or something is looking over it.
