  • certificates
  • reference to source material

The reason I have looked at all the poster conventions is so that when I come to make my poster i know what mine will have to consist of to be an effective film poster.

These are some of the poster conventions with images that I have found from different film posters-

Poster Analysis 6- This Is The End

This Is The End is an american disaster film, it is also a comedy and fantasy film, in this post i will be analysing the film poster

THE TITLE
the font is white and in bold capitals, the colour does not suggest anything about the film but it stands out in front of the background because the background is much darker compared to the rest of the poster

THE TAGLINE
the tag line gives a small hint as to the disaster and comedy idea of this film and the fact that it is based on the whole idea of an apocalypse

THE BILLING
the font is very faded and does not stand out because there is no need for it to

REFERENCE TO OTHER POPULAR ACTORS APPEARING IN THE MOVIE
mentioning that other popular actors are in the film helps with attracting a wider range of audiences, more people may come to see the film because of the mention of actors

NAMES OF STARS
there are a lot of well known actors in this film, and the producers have put them all on the poster in clear font that stands out because they want us to be able to see this

DOMINANT CENTRAL IMAGE
in this image we can see that all the actors are standing in what is about to be a hole in the ground, we can see just from this picture that the film is based on the world ending and the apocalypse, we can also see that it takes place in hollywood because of the sign in the background. From the faces of the stars we can see that they looked very afraid and confused, but at the same time they look funny because they're choice of outfit seems very normal and un planned, this shows the disaster and comedy side to the film

throughout this poster we can see lots of reds and oranges, associating this film with danger and fire, the slight glow of orange coming from the ground is suggesting that the world is burning again relating to the end of the world, the fonts is all in white to stand out above all the other bright colours on the poster.

Poster Analysis 5- World War Z

In this post i will be analysing the poster from World War Z that stars Brad Pitt, the films involves lots of destruction, its genre is action, adventure and horror

THE TITLE
The title is in bold and stands lout from the rest of the text on the poster, the red Z suggests blood and danger

THE BILLING

PRODUCTION COMPANIES
by the release date there is a list of the production companies and the age rating of the film

NAME OF STARS
The name of the actor in this film is in white, this does not stand out compared to the rest of the poster, this is because the production company want us to know that Brad Pitt is staring but they do not want it to distract from the rest of the poster

CENTRAL IMAGE
The camera shot that is used is a long shot of Brad Pitt, he is standing in a heroic pose, and he looks like he is going to be saving the city that is burning down. The back ground image is dull even though it is on fire, we can see the destruction and we can see that there will be a lot of death, the fact that he has got a gun shows the action and how he is in control

I personally feel that this is a very good poster and it shows  us exactly what we need to know about the film, but it does not give too much information away to the audience

Poster Analysis 4- How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

This genre of film is comedy and romance the poster for this film portrays this very well, in this post i will be explaining why and how the producers and illustrators for this films have done this

THE TITLE OF THE FILM
The colour of the words are scattered, to break up the length, so that the title is easier to remember for the audience

TAG LINE
This tag line literally sums up the whole film in one sentence, but it makes the audience want to know what happens and why they are lying to each other

THE BILLING
states the names of the producers, actors and most importantly the production company, on this poster it is difficult to see this, but this is so that the least amount of attention is placed here

NAME OF STARS
The names of the actors are in the same colour as the title showing a clear colour scheme, not all posters have got the actors names but in this case the producer may want to exaggerate the actors because of how popular they are

CENTRAL IMAGE
The dress that Kate Hudson is wearing is matching the colour scheme of the poster and it is also the dress that she wears in the ending of the film, Matthew McConaughey also is wearing a suit showing his professional status in the film

The colour scheme is continuously shown through out the poster and it links to certain scenes of the film, the yellow of the dress and green font may suggest happiness and calmness where as the red parts suggest anger and sex, this practically sums up the story line of the film and is a perfect representation of the characters

Film Poster Analysis 3- Harry Potter

In this poster analysis I will be analysing the poster from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1, the genre of this film is a drama, fantasy and adventure.

THE TITLE
The illustrator of this font has chosen to use a bold and harsh style, the font that is used in this film is very memorable and in all of the five films all the same fonts are used, this has created a way in which the audience can remember and an easy way to advertise and the audience will know exactly what they are being shown. Dark colours are used which suits the genre of film as it is a serious and dramatic movie

TAG LINE
This tagline is very interesting because it immediately draws in the viewer, through the use of the short sentence

RELEASE DATE

BILLING

REFERENCE TO OTHER FILMS
The producer wanted to audience to know that there is more to come because there are two parts to the film, and it tells the audience how important it is through the use of the word 'epic'

CENTRAL IMAGE
The audience can clearly see that Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is the main character due to him being the dominant central image as he is slightly than the other two actors. We can also see that they are running showing the action that happens in the film. The characters also look as though they are running away from something or someone which draws the audience in even more. The colours on the poster are dark and mysterious which suites the genre of the film, the fonts are bold and stand out, this draws the audience in even more

Film Poster Analysis 2- Are We Done Yet?

For this next post I will be analysing a poster from the film 'Are We Done Yet?', this is a comedy, drama and family genre.

THE TITLE
The colours and fonts of this title is very bold and bright to make it stand out and demands attention, the name of the film is a question this draws the audience in because they will want to know the answer and the outcome to the story.

TAGLINE
In the tag line the use of short sentences and the fact that the tagline ends with another question will draw the audience in to the film and make them want to see it because we want to know what the answer to the question is.

REFERENCE TO OTHER FILMS
This creates good advertisement as the film is from the same studio that has produced another popular film

THE BILLING
the billing contains important information about the film, the producer, music, screenplay, actors, soundtrack and the production company.
RELEASE DATE

DOMINANT CENTRAL IMAGE
In this picture we can see that the producers are trying to show a difference between the mum and children in the bottom compared to the main character who is standing at the top of the ladder.

In this poster we can see that the producers are trying the show a fun and comedy side because we can see just by the images and colours used in the image that the film will be humorous.
